Older actress (w/d) as "Gossip Grandma" for the short film "Right at Your Doorstep"

For our bachelor’s thesis film “Right by Your Side,” we are looking for actors for various leading and supporting roles. The short film is a mockumentary that follows a day in a nursing home. The story is told through observed scenes of everyday life and interviews with the characters.

While the nursing home administration wants to present as positive an image as possible on camera, the caregivers and residents struggle with staff shortages, time pressures, and the minor problems of everyday life at the home. The film combines dry humor with quieter and more serious moments.

A natural acting style is particularly important to us. The characters should not be played in an exaggerated way or like typical comedy roles, but should come across as real people. Experience in front of the camera is helpful, but not required for every role.

The Gossip Granny knows almost everything that goes on at the nursing home. She gathers information, spreads rumors, and trades news for candy or small favors. Not everything she says is true. Still, many residents and staff members turn to her when they want to know something or need help.

She has particularly close contact with the resident who’s planning to escape, the volunteer doing her voluntary social year, and the friendly caregiver. We’re looking for an actress with dry humor, a keen eye, and good timing. The role relies primarily on brief remarks, subtle reactions, and the sense that she’s always one step ahead of everyone else.
