Actor (m/f) as a “friendly caregiver” for the short film “Right at Your Doorstep”

For our bachelor’s thesis film “Right by Your Side,” we are looking for actors for various leading and supporting roles. The short film is a mockumentary that follows a day in a nursing home. The story is told through observed scenes of everyday life and interviews with the characters.

While the nursing home administration wants to present as positive an image as possible on camera, the caregivers and residents struggle with staff shortages, time pressures, and the small problems of everyday life at the home. The film combines dry humor with quieter and more serious moments.

A natural acting style is particularly important to us. The characters should not be played in an exaggerated way or like typical comedy roles, but should come across as real people. Experience in front of the camera is helpful, but not required for every role.

The friendly caregiver is very popular with the residents, but he tends to shy away from unpleasant or strenuous tasks. Instead, he organizes games, breathing exercises, or light physical activities and takes plenty of time to talk with them. The shift supervisor is regularly annoyed by his laid-back attitude, but she also knows that he has a good rapport with the residents.

Behind his relaxed demeanor lies genuine empathy. In the end, he’s the one who organizes the birthday surprise for the shift supervisor. We’re looking for a likable actor with natural humor, warmth, and the ability to improvise. Despite his laziness, the character should not come across as unlikable.
