Mid-aged / Best Ager actor (m/f) as the “nursing home director” for the short film “Right at Your Doorstep”

For our bachelor’s thesis film “Right by Your Side,” we are looking for actors for various lead and supporting roles. The short film is a mockumentary that follows a day in a nursing home. The story is told through observed scenes of everyday life and interviews with the characters.

While the nursing home administration wants to present as positive an image as possible on camera, the caregivers and residents struggle with staff shortages, time pressures, and the minor problems of everyday life at the home. The film combines dry humor with quieter and more serious moments.

A natural acting style is particularly important to us. The characters should not be played in an exaggerated way or like typical comedy roles, but should come across as real people. Experience in front of the camera is helpful, but not required for every role.

The nursing home director is primarily responsible for the organization and public image of the facility. He likes to talk about teamwork and modern care, but is largely unaware of what actually goes on in the home day to day. He forgot his appointment with the documentary film crew and, after arriving late, tries to come across as competent and prepared nonetheless.

His main point of contact is the shift supervisor, who usually has to put his ideas into practice. He also interjects in conversations with family members as soon as he feels the facility might be portrayed in a negative light. We are looking for an actor with good comedic timing who plays the character seriously and does not deliberately portray him as silly.
