This version of the privacy policy is effective as of 25 May 2018.
I. General
When we refer to data processing, we always mean your personal data. In the GDPR, these are defined in Art. 4 No. 1 as information relating to an identified or identifiable person. This means all data that have a connection (whether direct or indirect) to you, e.g. first name, surname, addresses, email addresses, user behaviour, etc. Data in connection with online websites or services that do not belong to us or that we do not control are not part of this privacy policy.

At the same time, this is the only way we can ensure the best possible user experience and optimise our services. We only process personal data in compliance with the statutory provisions. In addition, we process data when we have consent or when we have a legitimate interest in processing (e.g. interest in analysis, optimisation, economic operation, security of our online offering, in particular in measuring reach and collecting access data and using the services of third-party providers).

- Information about the browser type and version used
- The user's operating system
- The user's IP address
- Date and time of access
- Websites from which the user's system reached our website
1.2 Legal basis
The legal basis for the temporary storage of data and log files is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR.
1.3 Purpose of data processing
The temporary storage of the IP address by the system is necessary to enable delivery of the website to the user's computer. For this purpose, your IP address must remain stored for the duration of the session. Storage in log files is carried out to ensure the functionality of the website. In addition, the data serves us for optimisation of the website and for ensuring the security of our information technology systems.

In the case of data collection for the provision of the website, this is the case when the respective session has ended. In the case of storage of data in log files, this is the case after no more than seven days.
1.5 Right to object and removal
The collection of data for the provision of the website and the storage of data in log files is essential for the operation of the website. Consequently, there is no right of objection on the part of the user.
2. Cookies
2.1 Description and scope of data processing
Our website uses cookies. Cookies are text files that are stored in the internet browser or by the internet browser on the user's computer system. When a user accesses a website, a cookie may be stored on the user's operating system. This cookie contains a characteristic string of characters that enables a unique identification of the browser when the website is accessed again. Cookies cannot execute programmes or transmit viruses to your computer. They serve to make the internet offering as a whole more user-friendly and effective. There are 4 types of cookies:
- Session cookies expire at the end of your browser session and allow us to link your actions during that particular browser session.
- Persistent cookies are stored on your device between browser sessions and allow us to record your preferences or actions across multiple pages.
- First-party cookies are stored by the site you are currently visiting.
- Third-party cookies are placed by a third-party site different from the site you are visiting.
We use cookies to make our website more user-friendly. Some elements of our website require that the accessing browser can be identified even after a page change. The following data is stored and transmitted in these technically necessary cookies:
- Language settings
- Login information
We also use cookies on our website that enable analysis of the user's browsing behaviour. In this way, the following data can be transmitted:
- Use of website functions (Intercom)
- Usage behaviour (Google Analytics)
- Frequency of page views (Google Analytics)
- Search terms entered (Google Analytics)
When accessing our website, the user is informed about the use of cookies and their consent to the processing of the personal data used in this context is obtained. In this context, a reference to this privacy policy is also made.
2.2 Legal basis for data processing
The legal basis for the processing of personal data using technically necessary cookies is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR. The legal basis for the processing of personal data using cookies for analysis purposes is, where consent has been given by the user, Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR.
2.3 Purpose of data processing
The purpose of using technically necessary cookies is to simplify the use of websites for users. Some functions of our website cannot be offered without the use of cookies. For these, it is necessary that the browser is recognised even after a page change. The use of analysis cookies is for the purpose of improving the quality of our website and its content. Through the analysis cookies, we learn how the website is used and can thus continuously optimise our offering.
2.4 Duration of storage, right to object and removal
Cookies are stored on your computer and transmitted from it to our site. Therefore, as a user, you also have full control over the use of cookies. By changing the settings in your internet browser, you can deactivate or restrict the transmission of cookies. Cookies that have already been stored can be deleted at any time. This can also be done automatically. If cookies for our website are deactivated, it may no longer be possible to use all functions of the website in full.
3. Google Analytics
3.1 Scope of data processing
We use Google Analytics on our website to analyse the browsing behaviour of our users. The software sets a cookie on the user's computer. When individual pages of our website are accessed, the following data is stored:
- Two bytes of the IP address of the user's accessing system
- The website accessed
- The website from which the user reached the accessed website (referrer)
- The sub-pages accessed from the accessed website
- The time spent on the website
- The frequency of access to the website
Google uses cookies. The information generated by the cookie about the use of the online offering by the users is generally transmitted to a Google server in the USA and stored there. Google is certified under the Privacy Shield Agreement and thereby offers a guarantee of compliance with European data protection law. We only use Google Analytics with activated IP anonymisation. This means that the IP address of the users is shortened by Google within member states of the European Union or in other contracting states of the Agreement on the European Economic Area. Only in exceptional cases is the full IP address transmitted to a Google server in the USA and shortened there. The IP address transmitted by the user's browser is not merged with other data from Google. Users can prevent the storage of cookies by setting their browser software accordingly; users can also prevent the collection of data generated by the cookie and related to their use of the online offering to Google and the processing of this data by Google by downloading and installing the browser plugin available at the following link. Further information on data use by Google, setting and opt-out options can be found on the Google web pages "Data use by Google when you use our partners' websites or apps", "Data use for advertising purposes", "Manage information that Google uses to show you advertising". Google will use this information on our behalf to evaluate the use of our online offering by users, to compile reports on the activities within this online offering and to provide us with further services associated with the use of this online offering and internet use. Pseudonymous user profiles of the users can be created from the processed data.
3.2 Legal basis for data processing
We use Google Analytics, a web analysis service of Google Inc. ("Google"), on the basis of our legitimate interests (i.e. interest in the analysis, optimisation and economic operation of our online offering within the meaning of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR).
3.3 Purpose of data processing
We use Google Analytics to display ads placed within Google's advertising services and its partners only to those users who have also shown an interest in our online offering or who have certain characteristics (e.g. interests in certain topics or products determined on the basis of the websites visited) that we transmit to Google (so-called "Remarketing" or "Google Analytics Audiences"). With the help of Remarketing Audiences, we also want to ensure that our ads correspond to the potential interest of users and are not perceived as annoying.
3.4 Duration of storage
Sessions and campaigns are terminated after the expiry of a certain period of time. By default, sessions are terminated after 30 minutes of inactivity and campaigns after six months. The time limit for campaigns can be a maximum of two years.
3.5 Right to revoke and removal
You can prevent the storage of cookies by setting your browser software accordingly; however, we would like to point out that in this case you may not be able to use all functions of this website in full. You can also prevent the collection of data generated by the cookie and related to your use of the website (including your IP address) to Google and the processing of this data by Google by downloading and installing this browser add-on.
Opt-out cookies prevent the future collection of your data when visiting this website. To prevent collection by Universal Analytics across different devices, you must carry out the opt-out on all systems used.
4. Google Marketing and Remarketing Services
4.1 Scope of data processing
We use the marketing and remarketing services (hereinafter "Google Marketing Services") of Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA ("Google"). Google is certified under the Privacy Shield Agreement and thereby offers a guarantee of compliance with European data protection law. The Google Marketing Services allow us to display advertisements for and on our website in a more targeted manner, in order to present users only with ads that potentially match their interests. If, for example, a user is shown ads for products they were interested in on other websites, this is referred to as "Remarketing". For these purposes, when our and other websites on which Google Marketing Services are active are accessed, a code from Google is executed directly and so-called (Re)marketing tags (invisible graphics or code, also known as "Web Beacons") are integrated into the website. With their help, an individual cookie, i.e. a small file, is stored on the user's device (instead of cookies, comparable technologies may also be used). The cookies can be set by various domains, including google.com, doubleclick.net, invitemedia.com, admeld.com, googlesyndication.com or googleadservices.com. This file records which websites the user has visited, which content they are interested in and which offers they have clicked on, as well as technical information about the browser and operating system, referring websites, visit time and further information about the use of the online offering. The IP address of the users is also recorded, whereby we inform in the context of Google Analytics that the IP address is shortened within member states of the European Union or in other contracting states of the Agreement on the European Economic Area and only in exceptional cases is it transmitted in full to a Google server in the USA and shortened there. The IP address is not merged with the user's data within other Google offerings. The above-mentioned information may also be combined by Google with such information from other sources. If the user subsequently visits other websites, the ads tailored to their interests can be displayed to them. The data of the users is processed pseudonymously within the Google Marketing Services. This means that Google does not store and process, e.g., the name or email address of the users, but processes the relevant data on a cookie-related basis within pseudonymous user profiles. This means that from Google's perspective, the ads are not managed and displayed for a specifically identified person, but for the cookie holder, regardless of who this cookie holder is. This does not apply if a user has expressly permitted Google to process the data without this pseudonymisation. The information collected by Google Marketing Services about the users is transmitted to Google and stored on Google's servers in the USA. Among the Google Marketing Services we use is the online advertising programme "Google AdWords". In the case of Google AdWords, each AdWords customer receives a different "conversion cookie". Cookies can therefore not be tracked across the websites of AdWords customers. The information obtained with the help of the cookie serves to create conversion statistics for AdWords customers who have opted for conversion tracking. The AdWords customers learn the total number of users who clicked on their ad and were redirected to a page with a conversion tracking tag. However, they do not receive any information that personally identifies users. We may include third-party advertisements based on the Google Marketing Service "DoubleClick". DoubleClick uses cookies that enable Google and its partner websites to serve ads based on users' visits to this website or other websites on the internet. We may include third-party advertisements based on the Google Marketing Service "AdSense". AdSense uses cookies that enable Google and its partner websites to serve ads based on users' visits to this website or other websites on the internet. We may also use the "Google Optimizer" service. Google Optimizer allows us to track how various changes to a website affect it (e.g. changes to input fields, design, etc.) as part of so-called "A/B testing". For these test purposes, cookies are placed on the users' devices. Only pseudonymous data of the users is processed. Furthermore, we may use the "Google Tag Manager" to integrate and manage the Google analysis and marketing services on our website. Further information on data use for marketing purposes by Google can be found on the overview page; Google's privacy policy can be accessed here.
4.2 Legal basis for data processing
We use these services on the basis of our legitimate interests (i.e. interest in the analysis, optimisation and economic operation of our online offering) within the meaning of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR.
4.3 Purpose of processing
The Google Marketing Services give us the opportunity to display advertisements for and on our website in a more targeted manner, in order to present users only with ads that potentially match their interests.
4.4 Duration of storage
According to its own information, Google anonymises the log data collected by deleting part of the IP address and cookie information after 9 or 18 months.
4.5 Right to revoke and removal
If you wish to object to interest-based advertising by Google Marketing Services, you can use the setting and opt-out options provided by Google.
5. Facebook, Custom Audiences and Facebook Marketing Services
5.1 Scope of data processing
Within our online offering, the so-called "Facebook Pixel" of the social network Facebook, which is operated by Facebook Inc., 1 Hacker Way, Menlo Park, CA 94025, USA, or if you are resident in the EU, Facebook Ireland Ltd., 4 Grand Canal Square, Grand Canal Harbour, Dublin 2, Ireland ("Facebook"), is used. Facebook is certified under the Privacy Shield Agreement and thereby offers a guarantee of compliance with European data protection law. With the help of the Facebook Pixel, Facebook is able to determine the visitors of our online offering as a target group for the display of ads (so-called "Facebook Ads"). The Facebook Pixel is integrated directly by Facebook when our web pages are accessed and can store a so-called cookie, i.e. a small file, on your device. If you subsequently log in to Facebook or visit Facebook while logged in, the visit to our online offering will be noted in your profile. The data collected about you is anonymous for us, i.e. it does not allow us to draw any conclusions about the identity of the users. However, the data is stored and processed by Facebook, so that a connection to the respective user profile is possible and can be used by Facebook for its own market research and advertising purposes. If we transmit data to Facebook for matching purposes, they are encrypted locally on the browser and only then sent to Facebook via a secured https connection. This is done solely for the purpose of establishing a match with data equally encrypted by Facebook. The processing of data by Facebook is carried out within the framework of Facebook's data use policy. Accordingly, general information on the display of Facebook Ads can be found in Facebook's data use policy. Specific information and details about the Facebook Pixel and its functionality can be found in the Facebook help section.
5.2 Legal basis for data processing
We use these services on the basis of our legitimate interests (i.e. interest in the analysis, optimisation and economic operation of our online offering) within the meaning of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR.
5.3 Purpose of data processing
We use the Facebook Pixel to display the Facebook Ads placed by us only to those Facebook users who have also shown an interest in our online offering or who have certain characteristics (e.g. interests in certain topics or products determined on the basis of the websites visited) that we transmit to Facebook (so-called "Custom Audiences"). With the help of the Facebook Pixel, we also want to ensure that our Facebook Ads correspond to the potential interest of the users and are not perceived as annoying. With the help of the Facebook Pixel, we can also track the effectiveness of Facebook advertisements for statistical and market research purposes by seeing whether users were redirected to our website after clicking on a Facebook advertisement (so-called "Conversion").
5.4 Duration of storage
According to its own information, Facebook stores the date and time of your visit, the specific internet address on which the social plugin is located, and further technical data such as the IP address, the browser type and the operating system for a period of 90 days in order to further optimise Facebook's services. After the 90 days, the data is anonymised so that it can no longer be associated with you.
5.5 Right to revoke and removal
You can object to the collection by the Facebook Pixel and the use of your data for the display of Facebook Ads. To set which types of advertisements are displayed to you within Facebook, you can visit the page set up by Facebook and follow the instructions on the settings for usage-based advertising. The settings are platform-independent, i.e. they are applied to all devices, such as desktop computers or mobile devices. You can also object to the use of cookies that serve reach measurement and advertising purposes via the deactivation page of the network advertising initiative and additionally the US-American website or the European website.
6. SendGrid
6.1 Scope of data processing
For sending our newsletters, we use "SendGrid", an email marketing platform of the US provider Twilio Inc., 101 Spear Street, San Francisco, CA 94105, USA. The email addresses of our newsletter recipients as well as their other data described within the scope of these notices are stored on SendGrid's servers in the USA. SendGrid uses this information to send and evaluate the newsletters on our behalf. Furthermore, according to its own information, the sending service provider may use this data in pseudonymous form, i.e. without assignment to a user, to optimise or improve its own services, e.g. for technical optimisation of sending and presentation of the newsletters or for statistical purposes, to determine from which countries the recipients come. However, the sending service provider does not use the data of our newsletter recipients to contact them directly or to pass them on to third parties. We rely on the reliability and IT and data security of SendGrid. SendGrid (Twilio) has corresponding certifications (SOC 2 Type II) and thereby offers a guarantee of maintaining appropriate data protection and security standards. In addition, we have concluded a "Data Processing Agreement" (DPA) with SendGrid. This is a contract in which SendGrid undertakes to protect the data of our users, to process it in accordance with its data protection provisions on our behalf and, in particular, not to pass it on to third parties.
6.2 Legal basis for data processing
The data processing is carried out on the basis of our legitimate interests (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR).
6.3 Purpose of data processing
The collection of the user's email address serves to deliver the newsletter. Our interest is directed towards the use of a user-friendly and secure newsletter system that serves both our business interests and meets the expectations of the users, relying on the reliable infrastructure of SendGrid.
6.4 Duration of storage
The data is deleted as soon as it is no longer required for the purpose of its collection. Your email address will therefore be stored as long as the newsletter subscription is active.
6.5 Right to revoke and removal
You can cancel the receipt of our newsletter at any time, i.e. revoke your consent. A link to cancel the newsletter can be found at the end of each newsletter. After cancellation, your data will be deleted except for the email address. The email address is stored in a blocklist and is only used to ensure that we do not send any further emails to your email address.
7. Intercom
7.1 Scope of data processing
We use the service Intercom of the company Intercom Inc., 98 Battery Street, Suite 402, San Francisco, CA 94111 USA for sending messages by email and for chats as well as for customer management. We transmit the following personal data:
- Your email address
- Your first and last name
- Your telephone number
- Contract master data
- Contact details of the technical contact
Intercom, Inc. has the Privacy Shield certificate, through which a higher level of data protection is to be achieved for companies not based in the EU. Intercom also uses cookies. The information generated by the cookie about your last visited sub-page of this online platform is transmitted to an Intercom server in the USA and stored there. On our behalf, Intercom will use the above-mentioned information to provide the related services to the website operator. The IP address transmitted by your browser within the framework of Intercom is not merged with other data.
7.2 Legal basis for data processing
The data processing is carried out on the basis of our legitimate interests (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR).
7.3 Purpose of data processing
We use the Intercom service to be able to respond to customer enquiries as quickly as possible in the LIVE chat, but also to manage our customer contact. Our legitimate interest in data processing pursuant to Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR also lies in these purposes.
7.4 Duration of storage
The data of interested parties who have contacted us via the live chat will be completely deleted after no later than 9 months. Any interested party who subsequently contacts us will be treated as a new interested party.
7.5 Right to revoke and removal
You can prevent the storage of Intercom cookies by setting your browser software accordingly (found under "Settings" in most browsers); however, it should again be pointed out that in this case you may not be able to use all functions of this website (e.g. the live chat) in full.
8. Integration of Third-Party Services and Content
We use content or service offerings from third-party providers within our online offering on the basis of our legitimate interests (i.e. interest in the analysis, optimisation and economic operation of our online offering within the meaning of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR) in order to integrate their content and services, such as videos or fonts (hereinafter uniformly referred to as "Content"). This always presupposes that the third-party providers of this content are aware of the user's IP address, as they would not be able to send the content to their browser without the IP address. The IP address is therefore required for the display of this content. We endeavour to only use content whose respective providers use the IP address solely for the delivery of the content. Third-party providers may also use so-called pixel tags (invisible graphics, also known as "Web Beacons") for statistical or marketing purposes. The "pixel tags" can be used to evaluate information such as visitor traffic on the pages of this website. The pseudonymous information may also be stored in cookies on the user's device and may contain, among other things, technical information about the browser and operating system, referring websites, visit time and further information about the use of our online offering, as well as being linked with such information from other sources. The following overview provides a list of third-party providers and their content, together with links to their privacy policies, which contain further information on the processing of data and, in some cases already mentioned here, opt-out options:
- External fonts from Google, Inc. The integration of Google Fonts is carried out by a server call to Google (usually in the USA).
