Older actor/actress (m/f/d) as a “resident calling for help” for the short film “Right at Your Door”

For our bachelor’s thesis film “Right by Your Side,” we are looking for actors for various lead and supporting roles. The short film is a mockumentary that follows a day in a nursing home. The story is told through observed scenes of everyday life and interviews with the characters.

While the nursing home administration wants to present as positive an image as possible on camera, the caregivers and residents struggle with staff shortages, time pressures, and the minor problems of everyday life at the home. The film combines dry humor with quieter and more serious moments.

A natural acting style is particularly important to us. The characters should not be played in an exaggerated way or like typical comedy roles, but should come across as real people. Experience in front of the camera is helpful, but not required for every role.

The resident who keeps calling out needs regular assistance in his daily life and asks for help several times throughout the day. The caregivers hear him, but are repeatedly held up by other tasks and problems. This character illustrates the consequences that staff shortages can have for residents.

As the day progresses, the new FSJ volunteer in particular begins to listen more closely and take care of him. The role is not a running gag and should be played calmly and seriously. We are looking for someone who can credibly portray vulnerability and impatience without making the character appear helpless or excessively frail.
