Older actor/actress (m/f/d) as a “musical resident” for the short film “Right at Your Doorstep”

For our bachelor’s thesis film “Right by Your Side,” we are looking for actors for various lead and supporting roles. The short film is a mockumentary that follows a day in a nursing home. The story is told through observed scenes of everyday life and interviews with the characters.

While the nursing home administration wants to present as positive an image as possible on camera, the caregivers and residents struggle with staff shortages, time pressures, and the minor problems of everyday life at the home. The film combines dry humor with quieter and more serious moments.

A natural acting style is particularly important to us. The characters should not be played in an exaggerated way or like typical comedy roles, but should come across as real people. Experience in front of the camera is helpful, but not required for every role.

The musical resident plays his instrument repeatedly throughout the day. He is convinced that he is creating a good atmosphere, while some of the other residents and caregivers are becoming increasingly annoyed. His music becomes a recurring element of the film and is revisited once more at the end during the birthday surprise.

He clashes particularly often with the former pastor because his music disrupts the pastor’s sermons. We are looking for someone who can credibly convey a joy for making music. Knowledge of an instrument would be an advantage, but is not a mandatory requirement, depending on the instrument.
