Actor (m/f) in the "Best Ager" age group as the "Caretaker" for the short film "Right at Your Doorstep"

For our bachelor’s thesis film “Right by Your Side,” we are looking for actors for various lead and supporting roles. The short film is a mockumentary that follows a day in a nursing home. The story is told through observed scenes of everyday life and interviews with the characters.

While the nursing home administration wants to present as positive an image as possible on camera, the caregivers and residents struggle with staff shortages, time pressures, and the minor problems of everyday life at the home. The film combines dry humor with quieter and more serious moments.

A natural acting style is particularly important to us. The characters should not be played in an exaggerated way or like typical comedy roles, but should come across as real people. Experience in front of the camera is helpful, but not required for every role.

The janitor knows the building and its problems better than the facility management. He repairs broken items, handles technical malfunctions, and cleans up after others. He speaks very little—or perhaps not at all. He usually expresses his opinions through glances, pauses, or shaking his head.

He works particularly often with the shift supervisor and the cleaning staff. It’s also possible that he’ll later bring back the missing resident. We’re looking for an actor with expressive facial expressions and good timing. For this role, it is especially important to maintain a strong presence even without much dialogue.
