Job description
The Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin is one of Berlin’s state-funded ensemble theaters. It is shaped by a history of political and artistic innovation. Originally built as a concert hall for the Berlin Singakademie, it reopened as a spoken-word theater in 1952 and has since consistently provided decisive artistic inspiration. Located between Humboldt University and Museum Island, the theater is a place of transdisciplinary exchange and political debate using artistic means across genre boundaries. Starting with the 2026/27 season, the Maxim Gorki Theater, under the direction of Çağla Ilk, will be reoriented as a house of the arts, contradictions, and new beginnings.
We are looking for a new event technician in the field of lighting.
Your responsibilities:
Setting up, configuring, and overseeing lighting for rehearsals and performances at the theater as well as on tour
Creating lighting props and producing production-specific electrical installations
Technical operation, support, maintenance, repair, and safety inspections of in-house lighting equipment, lighting electrical systems, and emergency lighting
Contract details:
The employment contract is based on the TV-L
Pay grade 6, plus theater operations allowance, capital city allowance, and hardship allowances

Fixed-term for two seasons – temporary increase in staffing needs
Full-time; part-time is possible upon agreement

Role / Requirements profile
Your Profile:
Ideally, successfully completed vocational training as an “Event Technology Specialist” or many years of experience as a lighting technician
Knowledge of electrical engineering and electronics in the field of lighting technology
Application and confident handling of safety regulations, DIN standards, and accident prevention regulations
High level of commitment, reliability, independence, flexibility, resilience, and team spirit
Experience with the operational processes of a theater
Willingness to work standard theater hours (rotating shifts, weekend and holiday shifts, touring)
Good knowledge of English
