Job description
The Hans Otto Theater is the municipal theater of the state capital Potsdam and is located on Schiffbauergasse, Potsdam’s arts and culture district. Its striking, modern theater building, which opened in 2006, is situated on the Tiefen See. Its second venue is the historic Reithalle. Each season, approximately 20 plays premiere at the Hans Otto Theater, including five for children and young people. The 25-member acting ensemble presents a repertoire ranging from ancient and classical plays to contemporary drama, as well as musical evenings. The program is supplemented by guest performances, readings, panel discussions, and events organized by the Potsdam Bürgerbühne, among other things.
The position of Head of Lighting is to be filled as soon as possible.
Your responsibilities:
Management of the lighting department and supervision of the current staff of 12
Development of artistic lighting concepts in close collaboration with the production teams
Planning, implementation, and cost estimation of production-specific lighting elements
Close collaboration with the theater’s other technical and artistic departments
Staff planning and scheduling, organization of daily workflows
Ensuring the smooth running of rehearsals and performances
Planning and execution of guest performances
Responsibility for the function, quality, and safety of the lighting equipment on the stages and other performance and work areas in compliance with legal regulations
Experience with conventional stage lighting, LED spotlights, and moving lights in conjunction with complex stage and lighting technology

Role / Requirements profile
Your Profile:
You have successfully completed a degree in theater and event technology, hold a master craftsman’s certificate in event technology with a focus on lighting or have comparable qualifications, and have professional experience in theater operations.
In addition, you possess:
Leadership skills, the ability to work in a team, and strong interpersonal skills
An understanding of artistic processes and sensitivity in the technical implementation of artistic concepts
A structured, independent, and solution-oriented approach to work
Extensive knowledge of safety regulations in the theater sector
Proficiency in MS Office and CAD applications
Knowledge of operating modern lighting consoles (preferably ETC) and working with network technology
Good technical English skills
