Job description
The Schlosstheater Celle, a theater with approximately 130 employees, is seeking a full-time Technical Director (m/f/d) to start in November.
The Baroque Schlosstheater Celle has four performance venues, including a main stage equipped with state-of-the-art stage technology (over 20 fly systems, a turntable) and three studios. The program includes approximately 20 new theater productions and 16 concerts per season. In addition, there are collaborations with schools and community groups, as well as occasional venue rentals and guest performances. In total, the Schlosstheater stages around 600 events per season.
The Technical Director is responsible for planning and strategic issues related to technical operations, workplace and facility safety, and, in the future, building maintenance and upkeep. We are therefore seeking a technically skilled leader with experience in the theater field. Reporting directly to the theater management, the Head of Technical Operations will coordinate the assigned departments (stage technology, event technology, props, makeup, and—in the future—workshops and building services) in a demanding leadership role.
Your Responsibilities:
Responsibility for and fulfillment of assigned operational duties regarding workplace and operational safety as well as fire safety. (including preparing risk assessments, deriving and implementing the resulting measures, collaborating with the fire safety officer, and monitoring compliance with safety regulations)
Technical and personnel management of all assigned departments in close collaboration with department heads. This also includes personnel selection in collaboration with theater management, as well as coordinating personnel scheduling and performance evaluations
Planning and monitoring the financial, personnel, and material resources of the technical department
Close reporting to the Artistic Director and Executive Management in the respective business areas (technical capabilities and requirements for achieving objectives, necessary personnel structure, investment, and maintenance measures)
Independent handling of permitting procedures
Ensuring the technical prerequisites for high-quality artistic productions and, in the long term, the operational readiness of all technical and fire safety systems
In return, we offer you:
A contract based on the NV Bühne (SR Technik) with appropriate compensation
Long-term career prospects
Ongoing strategic involvement in shaping a sustainable and strength-based organizational structure within the technical departments and technical facilities, working directly with theater management
A high degree of personal responsibility
Company-sponsored continuing education and training
Company pension plan
Various benefits such as free tickets, Jobrad, HanseFit
Submit a comprehensive application with the standard documents (resume, cover letter, certificates) combined into a single PDF file. The application deadline is November 25, 2026
The Schlosstheater promotes equality among all employees and therefore welcomes applications from all individuals, regardless of their ethnic, cultural, or social background. People with disabilities will be given priority consideration if they have equal qualifications and abilities. Both internal and external applications are expressly encouraged.
