Role / Requirements profile
ANKE
Gender: female
Age range: 50–60 years
Language: German (native speaker)
Special skills: controlled crying
Anke is warm-hearted, cheerful, pragmatic, and self-critical. Her family means the world to her, and she generally approaches life with optimism and a dry sense of humor. Even when faced with difficult situations, she tries first to accept them and deal with them rather than pushing them away. At the same time, she scrutinizes her own actions closely and often wrestles with her doubts for longer than others initially realize. Anke is happily married and has two adult sons, including 28-year-old Malte. She shares a close and reliable bond with her brother Michael. They know each other very well and know that they can rely on one another, especially in difficult situations.
Anke takes Martha’s wish to die more seriously than Michael does at first, but she cannot understand it initially. She wonders how her mother can want to die even though she isn’t seriously ill, loves her family, and is still experiencing happy moments. Unlike Michael, she doesn’t doubt that Martha wants to go, but rather tries to understand why.
Anke realizes sooner that she doesn’t have to understand Martha’s wish herself in order to respect it. But that is precisely where her real inner conflict begins: as soon as acceptance turns into concrete support, she wonders if she has given up on her mother too quickly and if she should have fought harder for her.
