Role / Requirements profile
MICHAEL
Gender: male
Age range: 50–60 years
Language: German (native speaker)
Special skills: controlled crying
Michael is tactful, sensitive, harmony-oriented, and persistent. He is very attached to his family, especially his mother. Although he would actually prefer to avoid conflicts, he repeatedly gets into heated arguments with Martha. The two are very close and therefore know exactly how to get under each other’s skin, but they don’t hold grudges for long. Michael also has a sarcastic side that comes out especially within the intimate family circle. He is happily married and has an adult daughter. He has a close and trusting relationship with his sister Anke. Despite their differences, they both know they can always count on each other.
At first, Michael doesn’t really take Martha’s wish to die seriously. Because she still experiences beautiful moments despite her age, laughs, and has her family around her, he believes for a long time that her statements are driven mainly by frustration and bad days. Even when he realizes that Martha is serious, he clings to the hope that there are still enough reasons that might persuade her to stay.
His journey involves coming to understand that a life that still seems worth living to him may feel different to Martha. He doesn’t want to lose his mother, but he must learn that he cannot decide for her when her life is fulfilled.
