With this project, we want to present the topics of suicide and depression in everyday life and on a social level in an appropriate and authentic way, as well as respectfully show the effects on those affected and bereaved.
Based on extensive research and various discussions with aid organizations and related experts, we break with stereotypical role models and move away from thematic clichés in the broadest possible sense.
The film shines through intensively developed character biographies, which give the characters additional emotional depth and underline the film's plot beyond its running length.
Content
After the suicide of his brother Richie, Nate Daniels suffers from severe depression. Driven by feelings of guilt and self-hatred, he increasingly neglects his everyday life and his marriage. At the urging of his wife Emily, he looks for various ways to help himself and attends group sessions without really opening up. His attempts remain superficial as he represses his true feelings and thoughts.
In the end, Emily separates from him as she realizes that Nate is only making changes for her sake and not for himself. The loss of his wife takes away his last support - and he decides that his only way out is to take his own life. In his despair and finality, Nate decides to go to the support group one last time to talk openly about his guilt and hopelessness.
After the session, Claire, another participant and his neighbor, confronts him directly about his suicidal thoughts, and they meet him without clichés or appeasement. This honest conversation causes a moment of pause in Nate - for the first time he feels understood and no longer invisible.
"Samsara" is a film about the courage to face your own pain and that of others - and about how a single honest conversation can save a life.
If you like the values and content of this project and the advertised position, we look forward to getting to know you and gaining cool experiences. After publication / evaluation, you may of course also use this project for your portfolio :)
