Full-time Theater Painter (m/f/d) for the “Mittelsächsische Theater und Philharmonie gGmbH”

The Mittelsächsische Theater und Philharmonie gGmbH (MiT), a municipally funded organization, is a traditional yet modern multi-genre theater dedicated to promoting the arts and culture in the region. With over 550 events annually, more than 90,000 visitors, and 176 employees, MiT ranks among the largest cultural institutions in Central Saxony. At the heart of its public cultural mission are high-quality theatrical performances and concerts. 

Our theater is characterized by an open, collegial atmosphere—a team that passionately creates art for people in both urban and rural areas. To strengthen our team, we are seeking a theater painter to start on January 1, 2027

Work location: Primary work location: Freiberg, 
Secondary work locations: Döbeln, Kriebstein, and venues for guest performances

Your responsibilities will include, among other things:

• Painting all types of decorative elements, stage floor decorations, and stage backdrops according to the set designers’ specifications

• Designing decorative structures according to specifications and creating all kinds of material imitations, both sculpturally and through painting

• Painting, filling, sanding, plastering, and wallpapering stage decorations using various materials,

• Translating conceptual guidelines and set design drafts into drawings and paintings

• Repairing and maintaining set pieces and stage construction elements

• Creating appropriate work samples and prototypes

• Close coordination and collaboration with other trades

• Laminating tasks and other support work in the field of theatrical sculpture

• Support work in the areas of set decoration and upholstery

• Other tasks arising in day-to-day operations

Requirements: 

• Completed vocational training in stage painting or a college degree in theater painting

• Several years of professional experience in the theater field is desirable 

• Expertise in imitating materials and designing the surfaces of decorative elements, as well as in sourcing and selecting materials according to specifications

• An understanding of technical and artistic contexts, along with manual dexterity 

• (Historical) knowledge of art history and architecture

• A high degree of artistic sensitivity, as well as resilience, the ability to concentrate, and the ability to work well in a team 

• Ability to work independently and take personal responsibility

• Creativity 

• A sure sense of style 

• Strong communication and teamwork skills

• Good written and spoken German
