Director (f/m/d) for the children's program for the "KULTURmobil" project

The Cultural Affairs Office of the District of Lower Bavaria is seeking a director (m/f/d) for the children’s program as part of the KULTURmobil project’s 2027 tour (target audience: elementary school-aged children; running time: max. 50 min., cast of 2 to a maximum of 3 actors (m/f/d), depending on the evening’s production). The productions will be child-friendly, cheerful plays with music suitable for open-air performance; those featuring regional themes and/or dialect are also welcome. Specific play suggestions/ideas as well as work samples (video clips), if available, are encouraged to be included with the application. 

KULTURmobil is the traveling open-air theater of the Lower Bavaria district, which has been touring annually during the summer months from June through September since 1998. Rehearsals are expected to take place from late April/early May through early/mid-June 2027. Rehearsals will be held in a hall in Landshut.

Responsibilities

• Casting of roles in consultation with the project management

• Developing the stage adaptation and staging

• Coordinating rehearsal dates with the director of the second KULTURmobil production (shared use of the hall); Creating the rehearsal schedule

• Leading rehearsals in Landshut

• Working closely with the set, costume, and makeup designers and the stage technology team

• Participation in public relations (production of audio and/or video materials for reporting, announcements, or advertising)

Requirements

• A pragmatic approach to the specific circumstances and limitations of the project

• A creative approach to the specific circumstances of the mobile stage

• Professional training

• Experience directing children’s plays

• Structured, precise work (including adherence to the performance duration)

• High level of teamwork and reliability

• Flexibility regarding working hours

• Since the position is based in Landshut and Lower Bavaria, it is preferred that the director reside in Lower Bavaria, the Upper Palatinate, or Upper Bavaria
