Newcomer

Actor (m/d) for the short feature film "The Wristwatch"

Closed
Job description

For my short feature film "Die Armbanduhr" (AT) for the completion of my training as a media designer for image and sound, I am looking for a talented actor for the male lead role of "Jan".

The film is an intense intimate play that tells a profound family story in 4-5 minutes: After the death of their father, siblings Carina (28) and Jan (20) meet in their parents' empty house. A dispute over the wristwatch their father left behind triggers a long overdue confrontation. Hidden truths, unspoken sacrifices and the different roles the two have played in the family come to light.

The role of Jan is that of the younger brother - a sporty, easygoing student who initially comes into the situation unsuspectingly and only realizes the full extent of their shared past through the conflict with his sister. His character goes through a transformation from initial insouciance to defensiveness and anger to painful insight and an attempt to make amends.

This is an excellent opportunity for a young actor to create an emotionally complex role with strong development and to expand his portfolio.

Shooting is planned for 1-2 days in November/December 2025 in Münsterland. As this is a graduation project, I unfortunately cannot offer a fee, but of course full catering on set, payment of travel costs and professional material for your showreel.

Role/requirement profile

Jan is a 20-year-old student in the middle of life. He seems sporty, carefree and is used to things going his way. He initially reacts to the clearing out of his parents' house with a certain emotional distance. He is not malicious, but due to his youth and his unconscious role as the "favorite child", he has never learned to really perceive the sacrifices his older sister has made for the family. In the course of the story, his façade is broken and he has to face up to his own repression and responsibility.

Requirement profile:

  • Age: 18 - 22 years. (According to the script 20 years)

  • Type: Athletic, natural, authentic charisma.

  • Acting ability:

    • You can portray a believable emotional development: from initial nonchalance and defensive behavior to an emotional outburst (anger, shock, vulnerability) to genuine remorse and a quiet, honest moment of self-awareness.

    • You are a master of nuanced acting and can convey subtext - the ability to express sub-surface feelings such as confusion, guilt or burgeoning understanding through looks and body language.

    • Strong presence in interaction with a partner is crucial, as the film lives almost exclusively from the dialog and the dynamic between the two siblings.

  • Experience: First filming experience is an advantage, but not essential. More important are enthusiasm, reliability and the willingness to deal intensively with a complex character.
