Young Lead Role (m/f) for the student short film “LIMBU”

We are looking for a male actor between the ages of 18 and 28 to play the lead role in our student short film "LMBU."

The lead role is that of the young “Limbu,” who is involved in a car accident and encounters his deceased grandfather in Limbo (the waiting area between Heaven and Hell).

Logline

After a fatal accident, a young man ends up in Limbo (the threshold between Heaven and Hell), where he meets his deceased grandfather and learns his great secret.

Optional second sentence: With the help of a devilish mediator, the grandfather confronts his past, and his grandson returns to Earth.

Synopsis

The film opens with a shot of the planets of the solar system suspended motionless in space. Then they begin to orbit in their paths, while a voicemail from the mother plays: The grandfather’s funeral is over, and Limbu should drive carefully. A car accident occurs. The planets come to a stop in a perfect line. Limbu awakens in

a white, empty environment. There he encounters his deceased grandfather. Sitting at the table, Grandpa is forced by a diabolical figure named Stopheles to eat dust. This dust symbolizes Grandpa’s remorse. In an intense conversation, Limbu learns that Grandpa once lost a bet: In a time without social freedoms, he married a woman even though he was actually gay. Grandma knew about it, and both had made their peace with it. Nevertheless, Grandpa carried his remorse with him to the grave. When Limbu angrily confronts him, an open conflict arises between the two, which ends in mutual forgiveness. Stopheles, who oscillates between cynicism and empathy, interrupts the conversation in the interlude with a few verses about trusting in fate. Finally, Grandpa wants to sacrifice himself and go to hell in Limbu’s place. But thanks to a once-in-a-lifetime cosmic event—the perfectly aligned planets—Limbu is allowed to return to Earth. In a final embrace, Grandpa encourages his grandson to freely explore and live out his own identity. As they part, Stopheles reveals that hell doesn’t even exist, and, laughing, nudges Limbu through a doorframe back into life. The film ends: Limbu opens his eyes on a stretcher, surrounded by blue lights. He’s alive.

Limbu (Protagonist)

• Player age: 18–28 years

Character: Limbu is the protagonist of the story. On his journey from life to limbo and back again, he encounters his deceased grandfather and Stopheles (a sort of embodiment of the devil). Limbu is young and inexperienced, but also sincere and eager to learn. He is shocked when his grandfather reveals himself to him, but ultimately forgives him. Limbu’s identity, including his sexuality, is left open. He embodies the youthful potential to become anything.

• Experience in intimate theater or psychological drama is a plus

• Previous experience on a film set is a plus

• Good German
