Opera Leipzig, owned by the City of Leipzig, is looking for a full-time (39 hours/week), temporary position until 31.12.2026 for the Costume Workshops of the Leipzig Opera as of 01.08.2026
Tailor, specializing in men's costumes (f/m/d).
The Leipzig Opera follows in the tradition of over 330 years of music theater in Leipzig: In 1693, the first opera house on Brühl was opened as the third civic music theater in Europe after Venice and Hamburg. Since 1840, the world-renowned Gewandhaus Orchestra has played for all opera and ballet performances in Leipzig. In addition to the current opera house on Augustusplatz, built in 1960, the Musikalische Komödie in the Lindenau district is part of Oper Leipzig, a special venue for operettas and musicals with its own ensembles. With over 720 employees, the city's largest in-house cultural enterprise comprises a total of five supporting pillars: Opera, Musical Comedy, Leipzig Ballet, the Young Opera and Mediation 360° division and the craftsmanship of the theater workshops, which produce for all municipal stages.
In this position, you design costumes with precision and craftsmanship that come to life on stage. Whether it's a historical tailcoat, classic tuxedo or modern stage attire - you will make individual men's costumes for our artists and thus make a significant contribution to the overall artistic experience.

Your tasks will include, among other things:
Making modern and historical men's clothing for stage actors/actresses according to the instructions of the wardrobe masters
Fitting and cutting small parts
Sewing and altering costumes
Handling unusual materials, Fabrics and special shapes
Care, maintenance and professional handling of sewing machines, ironing equipment and other tools and additional equipment

Role / Requirements profile
You bring with you:
Successfully completed training as a bespoke tailor, specializing in men's
Ideally several years of professional experience
Experience in handling and processing different textiles and special materials
Knowledge of traditional craftsmanship, modern processing techniques and rational production methods
Experience in the production and alteration of historical, classic and modern men's costumes, such as tailcoats, tuxedos, tailoring, etc.
Reliable, careful and conscientious way of working
To be a team player, flexible and able to work under pressure
Interested in working in a lively cultural business
