Project Manager (m/f/d) for the Hamburg State Youth Orchestra  

Music brings people together. As an umbrella organization, we advocate for the interests of musicians in Hamburg. Our vision is to make “Music for Everyone—Throughout Hamburg” a reality. In doing so, we take responsibility for creating a livable metropolis, for fostering a rich cultural life and diverse community, for ensuring social inclusion for all people, and for promoting “Hamburg, the City of Music.” Together with our members, we represent more than 100,000 active musicians—from amateurs to professionals—in the musical metropolis of Hamburg. Strengthening music education and diversity, promoting young talent, and supporting amateur music in Hamburg are currently the focus of our work.

The Hamburg State Youth Orchestra (LJO HH), as the select orchestra of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, has been an integral part of the young musicians’ scene for more than 55 years and is the oldest youth orchestra in the Hanseatic City. During two intensive main rehearsal phases each year, as well as through additional projects with partners, the 70–90 musicians rehearse symphonic programs at a professional level. The orchestra aims to take a tour every two years. It’s not just about making music—the camaraderie and sense of community within the orchestra are what make this ensemble so special. The Hamburg State Philharmonic Orchestra serves as the “Tutti Pro” partner orchestra for the LJO HH. The LJO HH operates under the patronage of the First Mayor of the Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Dr. Peter Tschentscher, and is funded by the Ministry of Culture and Media. 

To strengthen our team, we are seeking, as soon as possible, a

Project Manager for the Hamburg State Youth Orchestra (m/f/d) &

on a part-time basis (25 hours) with a fixed-term contract initially for 2 years.  

Responsibilities:

• Overall coordination of the orchestra’s organizational work and all related activities

• Planning, organizing, and operational execution of work phases, concerts, concert tours, and other activities

• Budget planning and monitoring, as well as fundraising

• Concert acquisition

• Participation in press and public relations work and social media activities

• Guidance and support for committees and the orchestra’s board, including their support and empowerment

• Ensuring compliance with youth protection laws

• Contributing to publications by the State Music Council, as well as

• fulfilling reporting obligations to grantors and sponsors, etc.

The gross annual salary for the position (25 hours/week) is 30,160.71 euros (including annual bonus). The position is initially limited to two years. The goal is to transition to permanent employment.

Profile:

• A college degree in a relevant field or comparable vocational training, or similar qualifications or professional experience

• Substantial professional experience in event and project/orchestra management working with adolescents and young adults

• Proactive approach and a strong hands-on mindset, a sense of responsibility, and a constructive, solution-oriented, respectful, and team-oriented work style

• Goal-oriented thinking and action, as well as the ability to work independently

• An affinity for the classical repertoire

• A confident and friendly demeanor

• Very good computer skills (MS 365, MS Office, etc.)

• Residence in Hamburg or the surrounding area
