Job description
We’d love to bring Miriam Battye’s hit British play “Strategic Love Play” (German: Liebesstrategien) to Germany for the first time!
First, a word about who “we” are:
My name is Johannes Metz, I’m a theater lover and producer from Franconia, and I’ve been fortunate enough to act and direct since my youth; my day job is in business. Together with a hand-picked, experienced team, I’d like to help this play gain a foothold in Germany.
Back to the topic:
We are looking for 2 actors (1 w/d + 1 m/d).
We have been granted the German amateur theater rights for this production. We are classified as amateurs because, despite years of (professional) theater experience, we are considered amateurs for this project.
We will rehearse for 4–6 weeks in the Nuremberg/Fürth/Erlangen area in October/November 2026 and then celebrate the premiere in the Nuremberg area in November/December/January with 4–8 performances —afterward, we plan to offer the production as a guest performance to German theaters, including independent theaters as well as municipal and state theaters; however, this is still contingent upon Nick-Hern-Books granting the professional rights.
In addition to the performance fee, there will be a flat-rate rehearsal fee; we will agree on the details together and, of course, put everything in writing. Applications from trained professional actors and actresses will be given preference.
Role / Requirements profile
What matters most to us is that you’re inspired by the play and the author’s magic, and that together we can ensure the chemistry between our two actors is just right: You’ll be playing a non-romantic couple who are on a date and reveal many different facets of themselves in a single evening. We’re looking for actors who are willing to embrace this setting and who are also comfortable with the fact that they’ll both be carrying the entire play on their shoulders.
It would be great if you’re from the greater Middle/Upper Franconia area or have a place to stay here.
All further information about the casting, the rehearsal process, a short sample of the script, etc., will follow as soon as you’ve written to us!
In your email or message to us, tell us a little about yourself: name, age, the last play or film you were in, your availability, where you’re from or where you live, and what was the most unusual place you’ve ever had a meeting, date, or get-together! :D
Now let’s give you a closer look at our new baby, the wonderful play “Love Strategies”:
After meeting online, two strangers meet in real life. The atmosphere between them is ambivalent, with ups and downs, and the conversation is a complete mess.
And yet something keeps them in their seats—perhaps it’s the last vestiges of politeness still lingering within them, or maybe curiosity—or perhaps it’s simply the fear of missing out on something if they were to leave now.
What begins as a typical date away from dating apps evolves, in the first German-language production of “Strategic Love Play”—the play that sold out in London and took the Edinburgh Fringe by storm—into something unexpected: A journey through the emotions of two young/middle-aged souls. Two real people.
