Job description
The Münchner Volkstheater is one of Munich’s leading drama theaters. In October 2021, the new Münchner Volkstheater opened in the Schlachthofviertel. The theater has three stages. Christian Stückl has been the artistic director since 2002. He opened the theater and, together with young directors and a young ensemble, forged a new identity for it. The program is complemented by readings, concerts, and panel discussions. Since 2005, the “Radikal jung” festival for young directors has been held annually. Through “Radikal jung,” the Munich Volkstheater presents successful productions by emerging directors. The festival supports young talents who have distinguished themselves in the German and European theater scene with their work.
Münchner Volkstheater GmbH is hiring a lighting operator (m/f/d) as of October 1, 2026, on a part-time basis (24 hours per week) for a fixed-term contract ending July 30, 2027.
Your responsibilities:
Programming new productions at lighting consoles (GrandMA3)
Supervising rehearsals and performances
Setting up and dismantling lighting equipment
Operating and maintaining traditional and modern, digitally controlled lighting equipment
Independently familiarizing yourself with new software versions
Documenting production-specific lighting setups

Role / Requirements profile
Your Profile:
Certification as an Event Technology Specialist
Several years of professional experience, preferably in theater, or alternatively, several years of experience operating GrandMA series lighting consoles
Ability to maintain an overview even in complex DMX and Ethernet networks
Strong communication skills and a solution-oriented approach to work
An understanding of theater work; curiosity and flexibility to adapt to the working styles of different directing teams and lighting designers
Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings, Sundays, and holidays
