Two young women are given notice to leave their shared flat - and out of all the turmoil, they almost don't realize how much they like each other.
Bioluminescence is an experimental short film that sheds light on the relationship between two young women* who aren't sure how much claim they can make on each other. After all, they are not romantic partners... but what are they actually? And what security can they still give each other when their shared retreat is lost?
We would like to gently address a difficult situation that is based on multifaceted personal experiences and with which many young people who live in complicated friendships or relationships can certainly identify. Bioluminescence is our final film in the Bachelor's degree program Media: Conception & Production, and will be about 15 minutes long. Naturalistic, "classic" short film mixes with glitch images in the course of the plot to create an overall collage of emotions.
Shooting period: 6.11.25 - 12.11.25 (incl. one rehearsal day)

Financial matters: Travel expenses and accommodation will be covered or provided, and of course we will take care of catering during the shoot. Good knowledge of German (important for working with the director)
Fragile and overworked, Daniela plunges straight into organizing the flat-share break-up at home. It's clear that she can also take on the tasks of her flatmate Nives as she withdraws more and more. Her growing fear of a life without the flat share is probably simply due to the stress - and has nothing to do with Nives. Thinking about the fact that she herself might not be heterosexual is something Daniela just hasn't gotten around to yet.
We are open to the role, but the fact that the apartment is on the 3rd floor and unfortunately not wheelchair accessible is a limitation. Dani does not have to be played by a woman, or we are happy to rewrite the role if the collaboration is otherwise suitable. We are open to other identities, with the exception of cis men, because queer short films often tell stories about cis men, so with Bioluminescence we want to expand the narrative to include other identities. Under no circumstances should this approach suggest a "diverse = woman light" mentality!
