Job description
The topic “Menstruation, period pain, cycle health” is, unfortunately, still often treated as a taboo in our society. Women in Germany are fighting for more attention, while other countries are taking action and, for example, introducing menstrual leave.
In his new video and documentary series Manu’s Offstage Stories, host Manuel Hinmüller aims to provide a platform for precisely these kinds of topics.
Specifically, the audience can expect a behind-the-scenes look at real life. Moving personal stories, unfamiliar worlds, and social taboos are given exactly the platform they deserve. The series combines the dynamism of a vlog, the in-depth conversations of a podcast, and the authenticity of a video documentary.
In one episode, he plans to focus specifically on menstruation, menstrual health, and the current debate surrounding “menstrual leave.” However, this is not a political format; the primary goal is to educate viewers on how severely menstrual cramps can impact the daily lives of girls and women, when symptoms should be medically evaluated, and how partners and those around them can provide sensitive support. However, the topic of “menstrual leave” must also be addressed in this context to ensure the episode is comprehensive (featuring women’s advocacy groups and statements from the Ministry of Labor or the Ministry of Health).
An interview with a specialist has already been arranged to cover the medical aspects. Now we still need one or two protagonists who will share their experiences.
A brief note about the host, Manuel Hinmüller:
Through my work as a host and journalist, I’ve met many people and witnessed their hardships on an equal footing, and I’ve shared their stories with great compassion.
That’s exactly what I often find missing in today’s media landscape, driven by clickbait and stress. That’s why I want to give certain topics the broader platform they deserve.
Also because I know firsthand how difficult it is to be heard. It took some time before the turning point came and I had the courage to pursue my dream of becoming a host and journalist. The effort and ambition paid off: Today, I work as a freelance radio host, event host, arena announcer in the Volleyball Bundesliga, and journalist.
What’s important in my work: putting a smile on people’s faces and motivating them to follow their own path. But also giving them—and certain topics—a voice. That’s why Manu’s Offstage Stories is such an important labor of love for me.
