From the 2026/2027 season (from September 14, 2026) we are looking for a
Design Assistant

The Theater Freiburg is located in the middle of the city. It includes musical theater, drama,
concert, dance & performance as well as young theater and the participatory area Mitmachen! There are also various series and formats. It is the largest and oldest theater in Freiburg and attracts around 200,000 visitors per season. The 2026/27 season is the second season with the new artistic director Felix Rothenhäusler. Around 445 employees work together here across different professions, experiences and generations.

Your role and tasks
The design assistant is a central interface between artistic teams and the
departments of the theater. They work closely with stage and costume, direction, ensemble and workshops and support the production process. We are looking for curious, attentive and committed personalities who want to help shape artistic processes. We attach great importance to supporting assistants and strengthening their development.

The specific tasks include:

  • Supervision and support in the realization of the resulting productions in all phases of the processes

  • Rehearsal supervision in direct collaboration with the*set designer costume designer, the artistic ensemble and the technical departments

  • Participation in jour fixes with the assistant directors and set designers under the direction of the house director and the house scenographer

  • Participation in final rehearsals and debriefings of productions

  • Pre- and post-processing of rehearsals

  • Documentation and recording of rehearsals

  • Communication between the various departments and the production

  • Taking on smaller artistic projects

Role / Requirements profile

Your skills and qualities | Requirements:

  • Interest in theater, social issues, texts, various genres and artistic forms

  • Relevant studies and/or initial experience as a set assistant in the field of acting

  • Very good German and English language skills

  • Very good handling of Office programs & Outlook

  • Good knowledge of AutoCAD

  • Good knowledge of Adobe Photoshop

  • Good specialist knowledge of costume, editing and style

  • Independent work

  • Creative thinking and a high level of commitment

  • Reliability, resilience and flexibility
