Assistant Director at the Landestheater Schwaben

The Landestheater Schwaben is the largest cultural institution in the Allgäu region, based in Memmingen. With up to 15 in-house productions per season, the theater not only performs at its main venue but also fulfills its cultural mission at numerous guest performance venues throughout the district of Swabia and beyond. A passionate, highly motivated team develops plays for adults as well as for children and teenagers. You can expect a varied and diverse role in a creative and open atmosphere. Through your work, you will support the artistic and necessary organizational processes so that the productions in the Landestheater’s evening program can continue to successfully delight audiences in the city and the region in the future.

You are communicative, organized, and a team player, and you have already gained some experience in theater operations. Your work style can be described as self-reliant and solution-oriented; you are able to understand artistic processes well and inspire others with your passion for theater and culture.

You can expect a friendly, creative work environment and a theater that is committed to high quality and sees itself as the cultural hub of the city and the region.

Your responsibilities will include:

·   Supervising rehearsals and handling pre- and post-rehearsal preparations

·   Coordinating with the theater’s departments

·   Maintaining the director’s log

·   Providing stage prompting during rehearsals

·   Stage management and handling evening and performance duties

·   Overseeing guest performances

·   Organizational tasks related to theater operations and touring performances

·   Conceptual support and management of special formats

We expect:

·   Excellent organizational skills and communication abilities

·   Commitment, flexibility, resilience, ability to work independently, creativity, and empathy for artistic work processes

·   Practical experience as a director’s assistant or intern and/or a relevant college degree

·   Willingness to work standard theater hours (including weekends)

The position is a fixed-term contract initially for two years based on the standard stage contract under the “Solo” special provision, with compensation at the entry-level rate specified in the collective bargaining agreement. The position begins on August 24, 2027, with an additional commitment to participate in pre-rehearsals from July 6 to July 16, 2027.
