Job description

The Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin is one of Berlin’s state-funded ensemble theaters. It is shaped by a history of political and artistic innovation. Originally built as a concert hall for the Berlin Singakademie, it reopened as a spoken-word theater in 1952 and has since consistently provided decisive artistic inspiration. Located between Humboldt University and Museum Island, the theater is a place of transdisciplinary exchange and political debate using artistic means across genre boundaries. Starting with the 2026/27 season, the Maxim Gorki Theater, under the direction of Çağla Ilk, will be reoriented as a house of the arts, contradictions, and new beginnings.

We are seeking a directing and stage assistant (f/m/d) starting in August 2026.

Your responsibilities:

In the theater context:

  • Creating rehearsal schedules, room layouts, and coordinating all rehearsal processes in collaboration with the director and KBB

  • Managing the flow of information between the director, the ensemble, and technical teams

  • Responsibility for stage management during performances / revivals

In the exhibition / installation context:

  • Coordination of installation and dismantling phases for exhibitions

  • Interface between artists, workshops, and external trades

  • Production documentation (plans, procedures, handovers)

Transdisciplinary:

  • Process documentation

  • Support with grant reporting

  • Collaboration on production manuals

Contract details:

  • The contractual relationship is based on the standard stage contract

  • Compensation: Starting or minimum salary, corresponding to a gross annual salary between €38,000 and €42,000

  • Full-time
