Actors (m/f) for the student graduation film “NEYO” at Bavaria Filmstadt

THE PROJECT

NEYO is an ambitious science fiction short film about loneliness, dependence, and the fear of losing a loved one. For years, astronaut Erick has lived in isolation on a spaceship. His only companion is Neyo, an intelligent onboard computer that has long since become more than just a voice system. When the opportunity arises to transfer Neyo’s consciousness into a physical body, their close relationship begins to falter. What does it mean when your only friend suddenly begins to lead a life of its own?

As a psychological chamber drama, NEYO focuses on intense characters, subtle tension, and existential questions rather than classic sci-fi action. At the heart of the story is the question of what it actually means to be human—and where the boundaries lie between consciousness, personality, and genuine connection.

Filming takes place in the professional and visually impressive spaceship set at Bavaria Filmstadt, which was built for the Netflix film “Stowaway”.

For the two lead roles, we are looking for ambitious actors who are eager to take on challenging, multi-layered characters. Both roles require psychological precision and a keen sense for nuanced subtleties—ranging from restrained emotional tension to expressive physical performance.

ERICK – THE ASTRONAUT

Erick is a lonely man whose life and emotional stability depend entirely on his only confidant. As Neyo begins to break away from its original function, Erick finds himself increasingly caught in a conflict between intimacy, the need for control, and the fear of being replaced. We are looking for an actor who can credibly embody these inner contradictions and convey the character’s growing insecurity in a subtle yet intense way.

NEYO – THE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Neyo is Erick’s closest confidant—and a being who is beginning to outgrow his original function. With the prospect of having a body of his own, Neyo is faced with the question of what it means not just to exist, but to experience the world itself.

The role presents a unique acting challenge: How do you embody a being that understands and mirrors human emotions without necessarily feeling them in the same way? How much humanity lies in a glance, a gesture, or a barely perceptible change in voice? We are looking for an expressive performance, precise in both physicality and facial expressions, that shifts between familiarity and strangeness. Neyo is neither a stereotypical robot nor a mere imitation of a human, but an independent being in search of his own identity.
