Job description
For our bachelor’s thesis film “Right by Your Side,” we are looking for actors for various leading and supporting roles. The short film is a mockumentary that follows a day in a nursing home. The story is told through observed scenes of everyday life and interviews with the characters.
While the nursing home administration wants to present as positive an image as possible on camera, the caregivers and residents struggle with staff shortages, time pressures, and the small problems of everyday life at the home. The film combines dry humor with quieter and more serious moments.
A natural acting style is particularly important to us. The characters should not be played in an exaggerated way or like typical comedy roles, but should come across as real people. Experience in front of the camera is helpful, but not required for every role.

Tradespeople (m/f/d)
The two tradespeople are supposed to carry out repairs at the nursing home. It would actually be a manageable job if the responsibilities were clear and someone with the right key could be found. While they wait to get started, they make themselves comfortable for the time being.
They’re easygoing, sociable, and hardly ever let the hectic pace of daily nursing home life rattle them. They quickly strike up conversations with the residents, share their lunch, and join in for a round of Kniffel or a game of chess. As a result, their workspace gradually turns into a small gathering spot. They make significantly less progress on the repairs than they do with their new acquaintances.
We’re looking for two actors with a natural stage presence and a knack for dry, offhand humor. The comedy arises from their effortless composure and the contrast with the stressed-out nursing staff. The roles offer room for improvisation and interaction with each other as well as with the residents. Prior experience in handyman work is not required.
