The Mittelsächsische Theater und Philharmonie gGmbH (MiT) is a four-genre theater featuring musical theater, drama, youth theater, and a philharmonic orchestra. With its three permanent venues—the world’s oldest municipal theater in the university town of Freiberg, the Theater Döbeln, and the Seebühne Kriebstein—it offers a high-quality and diverse cultural program in the heart of Saxony.

Starting with the 2026/2027 season, Mittelsächsische Theater und Philharmonie gGmbH is seeking candidates for the position of Principal Conductor (m/f/d) on a permanent contract.
Your responsibilities:
Planning and execution responsibility for the independent preparation and musical rehearsal of the company’s own musical productions
Responsibility for the musical quality of commissioned productions and performances, and thus for ensuring that the work of staff members under your supervision during artistic production is carried out in a professional and high-quality manner.&
Rehearsal conducting
Shared organizational responsibility for the musical theater’s rehearsal scheduling
Responsibility, as a substitute, for rehearsing the choir and conducting choir rehearsals for the respective productions.
Responsibility for accompanying stage and musical rehearsals, as well as for studying parts, providing piano, celesta, or harpsichord accompaniment in the orchestra during rehearsals and performances, and conducting stage rehearsals.
Handling organizational and administrative tasks in consultation with the General Music Director
Assistance with the General Music Director’s productions
Additionally, the position involves creating musical arrangements and conducting interdisciplinary rehearsals for productions and programs.

Employment is governed by the NV Bühne collective bargaining agreement. The contract is initially limited to two years, though continued employment thereafter is the intention.

October 12, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Piano audition for 1st Music Director (with solo rehearsal)
October 13, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.: Preliminary conducting audition for 1st Music Director
December 2026 - Third round: an audition for the role in *Hansel & Gretel* (optional)
will take place.

Role / Requirements profile
We are seeking, to start as soon as possible (no later than February 1, 2027), a dedicated and dynamic individual with outstanding conducting and piano skills who is familiar with the stylistic diversity of a classical musical theater repertoire (opera, operetta, musicals, art songs, and concerts) and possesses excellent skills in working with singers during solo rehearsals.
A willingness to communicate, organizational and administrative skills, and a good command of German are required.
