Industry jargon not your thing? Our glossary will enlighten you!
An online casting is a casting that takes place without the actual physical presence of the candidates. In terms of content, there are no differences to a traditional casting, but the framework conditions differ significantly.
The basic principle of online casting is actually no different from regular casting. Candidates present themselves and a jury selects the most suitable models. Nevertheless, online casting has certain peculiarities.
Applicants are usually asked to submit two short videos with different content as the basis for the casting. Their content:
First video: Serves to introduce the model. Name, age, career and references are important. In the best case scenario, this will also convey a personal impression. The length of these clips is between one and two minutes.
Second video: The agency specifies in advance which poses it wants to see from the applicants or which scene they should play. This ensures the necessary comparability.
As online castings have recently gained in importance, you will of course find all the important information on Jobwork.
Clients and applicants both benefit in some ways from the characteristics of online casting, but of course in different ways.
The advantages for applicants include:
Familiar environment: the recordings for the required videos or photos can take place in an environment that the applicant is familiar with. This helps to relax and increases concentration.
Less effort: There is no need to travel to and from an online casting. This reduces not only the time but also the financial burden. In addition, the application time is not exclusive. While a fixed date is set for a traditional casting, there is usually an application phase with online casting.
Several attempts: Those who do not take their chance at a normal casting have no opportunity to improve. If the applicant is not satisfied with a video/photo, they can shoot it again without any problems.
The advantages of online casting for clients and agencies are as follows:
Selection: The elimination of spatial restrictions significantly increases the pool of applicants. This leads to more choice.
Timeliness: Many models and actors already have a completed application video in their portfolio. However, this is not the end of the story with online casting. The second clip, which is created according to the casting director's specifications, gives them an up-to-date impression of the applicant.
Time: While there is usually deadline pressure at a traditional casting, casters have more time to deal with applicants during online casting. They can watch the videos as often as they like.
There is no expense allowance for online castings. Travel costs and other typical casting expenses are not incurred with this option anyway.
