Role-players (m/f/d) as “Civilians on the Battlefield” for NATO soldier exercises

We are looking for employees who enjoy:

• support soldiers from NATO member countries and NATO partner countries as they prepare for their missions, including by training them on how to assist local leaders and the civilian population during times of war and other crises.

• experience Bavaria’s flora and fauna and work in the beautiful nature reserve at the JMRC Hohenfels under varying weather conditions.

• try something new and exciting and are looking for a break from everyday life

• work with people from all over Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and other EU countries to represent a realistic urban population.

What we offer as an employer:

• You’ll gain insight into the various tasks soldiers perform in a war or crisis scenario.

• During the exercise, you’ll be assigned a role that may include a different name, motives, and priorities and represents a kind of “new identity.” For example, you might play the role of a café owner, salesperson, teacher, doctor, etc., in one of seven unique simulated villages on the training grounds.

• Depending on the role assigned to you, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the different villages.

• During the military exercises, you’ll experience active combat operations between NATO soldiers and enemy units up close.

• You can broaden your horizons by living closely with people of different ages, ethnicities, social backgrounds, and life experiences.

• As a part-time role-player, you’ll participate in exercises lasting between 12 and 15 days. The daily work shift lasts up to 9 hours, with a gross hourly wage of €13.90.

• We offer pick-up options in numerous cities across Germany. Transportation to JMRC Hohenfels and the return trip to one of our designated cities is provided by a contracted coach company.

• Accommodations, meals, and beverages are provided. Accommodations are in the village where you will be deployed during the day. You will spend the night in barracks with multi-level sleeping quarters.

• You can count on support from colleagues who have been participating in such exercises for many years.

We are a leading provider of civilian role-players and mission support for NATO military exercises in the U.S. and Germany (since December 2019). After review by the JMRC (Joint Military Readiness Center), you will be invited to participate in the next exercise. Five to eight exercises take place annually. Each exercise lasts 12–15 days.

Requirements to become a part-time Civilian on the Battlefield (COB): You must be an EU citizen or hold a German work permit. You must have a basic knowledge of German and English. You must be at least 18 years old. During military exercises, you may be required to walk distances of approximately 5–8 km. The work takes place primarily outdoors, so you will regularly be working in all kinds of weather. You are willing to take on the role assigned to you (e.g., police officer, doctor, teacher, professor, farmer, shop owner, etc.) and to act out that role when interacting with soldiers.
