Job description

The renowned Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna is one of the leading spoken theaters in the German-speaking world. In the two venues Theater in der Josefstadt and Kammerspiele der Josefstadt, around 14 new productions are developed each season and around 550 performances are played in the repertoire.

The Theater in der Josefstadt BetriebsgesmbH. is looking for a dedicated masque director from Aug. 2026 for a dedicated make-up artist as Deputy Head of Department (m/f/d)

Your responsibilities

  • Duty planning and organization of performances and rehearsals

  • Production and maintenance for new productions and repertoire pieces

  • Supervision of performances and rehearsals (ladies and gentlemen)

We offer you:
We offer a monthly gross salary of € 3,000. Gross salary of € 3,000 (full-time - 40 hour week) plus additional fees and overtime. Special payments, annual vacation entitlement is 7 weeks, willingness to overpay with proven previous service is possible!


Role / Requirements profile

Our requirements

  • State-recognized qualification as a make-up artist or other relevant training in the field of make-up

  • Previously completed training as a hairdresser is an advantage

  • Multiple years of professional experience in the theater or film sector

  • Personal management and social skills as well as motivation and assertiveness

  • Creativity, solution-oriented, efficient and independent work, manual dexterity

  • Team skills, reliability, Stress resilience and personal commitment are important to us

  • Good IT skills

  • Very good written and spoken German and English

  • Flexibility and willingness to work varying hours, including weekends and public holidays

  • Apprentice trainer exam an advantage
